Description

Trellis was designed in1864 by William Morris, inspired by the rose trellis in the garden of Red House, his home in Bexleyheath. Trellis was the first wallpaper Morris designed, along with Daisy and Fruit; since they were all produced using a hand-printing process, it took a long time to do and therefore was expensive.

At the time Morris was printing Trellis, each colour within the design required a separate block- so these designs, with 12 blocks each required to create the intricate patterns, were put on hold until the early 1870s when Morris, Marshall, Faulkner & Co. (later Morris & Co.) had enough money to finance the designs.

The birds within the design, as with many of the naturalistic elements within Morris' designs, were designed by his good friend and colleague, Philip Webb.

This is our heavyweight cotton cloth, printed in the United Kingdom, suitable for many different projects, including light upholstery and curtains. We do other weights of fabric in Trellis, including a 100% cotton fabric which is great for dressmaking and quilting etc., and a wipe clean pvc fabric.

Measurements: The cotton fabric is 152cm wide, including a white salve edge. The pattern repeat is 20.5cm.

For the fabric length, it's sold by the half metre, so you can choose your length using the quantity box. If you order more than 0.5m in the same order, it will be sent as a continuous length.

Care for your item: You can wash the fabric, please make sure the fabric is washed face to face (to reduce abrasion from the washing machine) on a 30 degree wash. Hang to air dry. As with all natural fibres, cotton will contract so slight shrinkage should be allowed for.

We offer free UK shipping on all orders, orders placed before 3pm will go the same day unless they are a large order in which case it will be the next working day. For abroad shipping, we post via the eBay Global Shipping Programme, please place the items into your basket and eBay will work out your postage for you based upon the weight of your item.

Returns Policy:

If you're not happy with your item, please return it to us within 14 days of purchase in it's original condition. Please note that if you've used the item or cut the fabric, we are no longer able to offer a return on your item. The customer is responsible for the safe return on the item, in the original condition, and although we are pleased to offer free postage, we cannot offer free returns.
