Welcome to ANTIQUES & MOORE!

This listing is for a lovely 19th Century English silver plated round lidded vegetable bowl or buffet server. Made by the George Richmond Collis Company in business in Birmingham from 1840-1893. The lid has an embossed swag encircling the scalloped edge of the top with ribbons and bows at the top of each swag. There is also a beaded trim around the top with a matching design on the border of the base. The finial handle is removable allowing the top to be used as a second dish, if desired. Has fancy monogram "R P".

Tureen is marked on the base "Collis & Co., 130 Regent St., London" and in fancy hallmarks "E P B S A1". This hallmark indicates that the silver is Electro-Plated Britannia Silver. George Richmond Collis & Co. is registered as a Birmingham silversmith so the London address is most likely a retail location.

Measures 1 3/4" high (to top of base), about 5" (to top of finial) and 10" in diameter (base). Weighs 3.6 pounds.

This buffet server is in excellent Estate condition with no noted flaws reflecting only minimal signs of normal use. We have only gently polished this exceptional piece, however, we have no reason to expect that the exterior would not polish beautifully as there are no signs of any damage to the silver plating.

Please note that we have a matching oval lidded vegetable bowl that matches this round one being listed separately so check our other listings should you wish to purchase a pair.
