The pure ultramarine pigment is the same one that Klein made famous as International Klein Blue,
although here it is applied in a somewhat more painterly manner. The ground section
represents the opposite of Klein's utopian vision: imprisonment, futility, violence. The pigment, 
mixed specially for this painting, is made from fragments of the Berlin Wall, granules of glass 
formed from desert sand by the Trinity nuclear bomb test, and lead from 
bullets fired during the Indian Wars.
