THIS RECORD IS FROM OUR PERSONAL COLLECTION. Well maintained.

*Because our clients are mostly jazz collectors and connoisseurs, as we are, we made it our policy to only sell vinyl that we grade in VERY GOOD (VG) condition or better. This vinyl is in our opinion a VG+, looks and plays great.

Record Grade VG+ = ONE OWNER. Purchased new in New York City in 1977. Very well maintained. Just listened to both sides of the whole album with headphones on and it plays very beautiful. The vinyl looks beautiful. Little to no surface noise at all. No skips or jumps. Difficult to find this rare vintage stereo recording in such nice condition. (see pictures)

Jacket Grade VG+ = Very well maintained. We kept it on our shelf in plastic cover all these years. The jacket is very sturdy. No writing, no tape, very small seem split at top entry point. Corners have  regular shelf use. Firm spine. A strong clean jacket for a 40 year old album. (see pictures)

The pictures were taken of the exact vinyl record and album cover you will receive, moments before this listing was written. Please make sure to review the images and ask any questions prior to bidding.

John Birks "Dizzy" Gillespie (October 21, 1917 - January 6, 1993) was an American jazz trumpeter, bandleader, composer, and singer.

Gillespie was a trumpet virtuoso and improviser, building on the virtuoso style of Roy Eldridge but adding layers of harmonic complexity previously unheard in jazz. His beret and horn-rimmed spectacles, his scat singing, his bent horn, pouched cheeks and his light-hearted personality were essential in popularizing bebop.

In the 1940s Gillespie, with Charlie Parker, became a major figure in the development of bebop and modern jazz. He taught and influenced many other musicians, including trumpeters Miles Davis, Jon Faddis, Fats Navarro, Clifford Brown, Arturo Sandoval, Lee Morgan, Chuck Mangione, and balladeer Johnny Hartman.

Scott Yanow wrote: "Dizzy Gillespie's contributions to jazz were huge. One of the greatest jazz trumpeters of all time, Gillespie was such a complex player that his contemporaries ended up being similar to those of Miles Davis and Fats Navarro instead, and it was not until Jon Faddis's emergence in the 1970s that Dizzy's style was successfully recreated [....] Arguably Gillespie is remembered, by both critics and fans alike, as one of the greatest jazz trumpeters of all time".

Pablo Records was a record label founded by Norman Granz in 1973, roughly a decade after he had sold his jazz labels (including the world-famous Verve Records) to MGM Records.

Pablo initially featured recordings by acts that Granz managed such as Ella Fitzgerald, Oscar Peterson and Joe Pass. Later, recordings by Count Basie, John Coltrane, Dizzy Gillespie and Sarah Vaughan were added. Milt Jackson and Paulinho da Costa recorded for Pablo from the mid 70s to the mid 80s.
