Up on the auction block is a very old pair of Antique NOS Victorian Period Black Leather Lace Up Boots that work out being the size US 6 ½. The numbers inside the shafts read 440 76377 which indicate the size , being (440) crosses over to roughly a US 6-6 ½. The leather is very old and stressed, possibly from the late 1890s. The shafts are still soft and supple, but there is noticeable cracking in the leather uppers and even the finish is beginning to wear away on the ankle of the right boot. On the right shoe located on the outside there looks like 2 puncture holes that were patched and there is a tear by the first eyelet.
The inside cotton twill lining is in extremely bad condition. It looks like both shoes have signs of water damage, the worst is in the right boot. The lining is very thin and weathered, deteriorating away with open rips in various places. In the right boot it has torn away from the top. The leather banding across the top is flaked and crumbling away in the right boot, but not as bad in the left boot. The leather banding along the eyelets is also deteriorating away in both, again primarily worse in the right boot where the banding has separated from the leather shafts in both boots, again worse in the right boot. The removable leather insole is fairly intact in the left boot, where in the right boot has deteriorated away almost into powder (there are 18 pairs of internal eyelets). Oddly, enough, the tongues in both boots are in excellent condition with full cloth backing.
The bottom soles and heels are new, never worn in condition but show signs of age. Stamped into the bottom is Hamilton-Brown Shoe Makers Company. These boots are not wearable due to so much abuse and damage by the harsh environment they were stored in for so many years. Such a shame! Measurement dimensions will still be provided.
