The best by date provided by the ESTATE is about 6 months after roasting, contrary to other roasters that mention a best by date of 12 months after roasting. This batch is labeled by the roaster "best by "APR 15 2024" / or +6 months like similar 100% Hawaiian coffees from competitors.
About "100% Hawaiian coffee" grown in the Kona region and "100% Kona coffee" grown in the Kona region":
This price-conscious coffee is grown as Kona coffee, but once milled, did not qualify to be labeled "100% Kona Coffee" as required by Hawaiian State law.
Only a small percentage of coffee grown in the Kona region qualifies as "Kona Coffee", but is to valuable to be thrown out.
The coffee in this pack, grown in the Kona region, did not qualify as "100% Kona Coffee" and must be labeled and sold as "100% Hawaiian" coffee as required by Hawaiian state law, like all other coffees from the other 4 islands (Kauai, Maui, Molokai, Oahu).
Please note that the coffee in this pack is grown on the same plants that produces "100% Kona coffee" but once milled did not make the cut to be labeled "100% Kona coffee" as required by Hawaiian State law.
Some find it very hard to taste the difference between these two coffees grown in the Kona region.

The "100% Hawaiian" beans are smaller, but because they are separated from "100% Kona Coffee" beans before roasting, they are given their own roasting techniques to bring out their own unique flavors.
This 100% Hawaiian coffee is significantly better than most other Hawaiian coffees (from Kauai, Maui, Molokai and Oahu) out there because it was grown in Kona where the climate and soil produces a more flavorful coffee.
Compare Kona grown Hawaiian coffee to any other Hawaiian coffee and notice the remarkable differences.
Some Hawaiian coffees are labeled 'estate', 'private reserve' or 'single origin' indicating that they are from the same farm but then roast all sizes together because they can't afford to waste any beans.
Due to the nature of coffee, sizes vary, so roasting different sized beans together leads to an inconsistent roast, with some beans being over roasted, resulting in a burnt taste.
Since Hualalai Coffee Estate roasts only uniform beans together, and roast at a temperature that brings out the perfect balance for that size, a more uniform and consistent smooth tasting roast is the result.
