The prewar Zeiss Contax II and the Leica III, because of their use by photojournalists in the 1930s, did much to popularize the 35mm format. And while the Leica may be the more well-known of the two 35mm rangefinders, the Contax actually bettered the Leica in a number of ways:

     - much longer rangefinder baselength for more accurate focusing
     - combined viewfinder/rangefinder vs separate RF and VF ports
     - single non-rotating shutter speed dial vs separate fast/slow dials
     - easier film loading with removable back
     - bayonet mount vs screw thread meant faster lens changing

This particular Contax II, whose serial #K61701 dates it from 1939 (the serial number of the removable back is the same, meaning this camera has the original back supplied with the camera), is in exceptional condition, both cosmetically and functionally. The minty cosmetics demonstrate the truly exceptional care given this camera over the last 80 years, while an extensive and thorough (and expensive!) CLA less than a year ago accounts for the original, up-to-spec functionality. The Contax shutter received special attention, having been cleaned and lubricated following the installation of new ribbons. Thus, all speeds from 1/2 sec. to 1/1250 are appropriate. The self-timer received the same careful treatment and works correctly. The coupled rangefinder is bright and accurate, and the focus patch has nice contrast. The coated 50mm f/1.5 Jupiter 3 lens (serial #6102804) is clean and clear, with no fog, fungus, scratches or cleaning marks (though the aperture ring is a bit stiff). You may know that the Jupiter-3 50mm f/1.5 is a copy of the Zeiss  Sonnar 50mm f/1.5, and while no Sonnar, it's capable of fine results.  Included is a film take-up spool, a very nice original Zeiss Ikon leather case and strap, and a professionally photocopied Contax Guide. About 5 lbs packed for safe shipment from zip 55047. I ship once a week (assuming payment has been made), on Thursdays. If payment is not received within 5 days of the listing's end, the item will be relisted and eBay notified of a nonpaying bidder. Check my feedback and bid with confidence.
