Presentation

This is the most extraordinary variety with large, yellow-green striped fruits which will best grow to maturity in a sheltered, hot spot, as it needs a long Summer.

Partenocarpic (self fertile), so no need of fig wasp for pollination.

Fig is a well known fruit, cultivated since ancient times and grows wild in dry and sunny areas. It is mostly cultivated around the world for its fruits but it is also a great architectural plant with very ornamental leaves, plus the foliage turns yellowish in the Autumn. After their fall, the fruits often remain on the bare branches. We have different leave forms, deeply lobed to slightly lobed. Figs can be found in continental climates with hot summers as far north as Hungary and Moravia, and can be harvested up to four times per year. Thousands of cultivars, most named, have been developed as human migration brought the fig to many places outside its natural range. Two crops of figs are potentially produced each year, but in UK conditions, it is safer to use varieties with one crop as the first crop would often be damaged by Spring frosts.

Most common figs have all female flowers that do not need pollination; the fruit develops through parthenocarpic means, but there are varieties which requires the fig wasp for pollinisation (this insect usually cannot live in UK climate, this is why parthenocarpic varieties have to be used here to have fruits). We send out 6 months old plants (from cutting), potted into 8 or 9cm pot.

Please check our shop regularly as we will have different fruited varieties on offer soon.

Packaging & Postage details

  • When sending plants, it is extremely important to pack them as securely as possible. Therefore we do not use stuffing. Instead, we have developed a UNIQUE PACKING METHOD which makes plant movement virtually impossible in the parcelAll pots are covered with special media to the very top for the postage and then wrapped therefore compost is securely locked during postage and roots won't be disturbed. Whenever place an order for whatever plant, you can be certain that your item will arrive in perfect condition to your door. We always send every plant in sturdy, reusable plastic pot even if it does not fit into the "small" parcel category.
  • We will send you an email about the exact dispatch time, including details about your parcel as there are also some guidelines to follow when opening the parcel to unwrap your plant(s) securely.
  • In almost all circumstances, we use Royal Mail 24h service to send your parcels with the delivery aim of 1 day in the UK; or Standard Airmail to overseas. You have the option for Recorded (Signed For) deliveryRoyal Mail has length limitations for medium parcels, it cannot exceed 61cm, if sending it within the UK and 60cm, to overseas. This means that if rarely, a plant is longer than that, we have to cut it back to fit into the box. Whenever possible, we try to avoid this, using the right plant for you. For parcels heavier than 2kgs, we may use UPS fully tracked service. We can send plants in one single parcel for up to 20kgs (size limitations may apply) both to the UK and overseas. Length limitations are far better with UPS service.
  • We combine postage whenever possible, for example if you order plants supplied in 8-9cm pots, the additionals will only cost £1.25 each (within the UK) and £2.00 to overseas. If you order several different plants, please always ask for invoice so we can calculate the reduced postage. You never pay more than the actual cost for sending the parcel so we do not make any profit on P&P (even if we don't offer "free" postage which is in fact "inclusive" postage and would result in higher prices), and the packaging is included in the item price.
    • YOUR TOTAL SATISFACTION IS OUR PRIORITY, therefore, in the extremely unlikely event the plant gets lost during shipping (you MUST receive the plant in 7 days in the UK and 12 days abroad) OR arrive damaged, we will send you another plant(s) free of charge. Please note that we may send any plant(s) Signed For at our own cost in case of a plant which is hard to replace in the very unlikely event of "lost in transit" - in these cases, we will send you an email prior to dispatch.
    • Please note that we guarantee ONE WORKING DAY DISPATCH time but we cannot guarantee the exact DELIVERY time as it is beyond our control. For extra peace of mind, from abroad - especially in Summer when the weather is often hot - please consider to order International Signed For delivery (with tracking number) which is usually quicker than standard Airmail, which is NOT TRACKED.
    • It is important to us to care about the environment,  so our plants are grown in injection moulded, strong, reusable plastic pots (this ensures too that they don't break during shipping and afterwards), and we pack our plants in partially recycled cardboard boxes.
    • All items will be sent in one working day after the registered payment as follows (Friday and Weekend purchases will be sent on Monday to avoid any weekend postal delay):

    * Items bought on the day before any Bank Holiday will be sent the next available working day when Royal Mail operates (except Saturdays to avoid weekend delays).
