This is a BUILD your Own D.I.Y Kit. It is NOT a finished Model

Made in the U.K!

The feedback we have had regard this kit is excellent - even we've had one! Excellent kit and Made in the UK!

Popular with Dad’s and Granddads who may have built similar styles of models when they were young. Balsa modelling was never this good! Modern manufacturing and Laser Cut Parts means for a much more accurate flying model than most novices can reproduce by cutting  and shaping their own parts. Of course the more modern constructions methods are more popular with the young as well because a successful flying model is more likely from such an accurate balsa kit. The latest of Magnificent Flying Machines – A Modern Classic: The Sopwith Triplane Kit. This one has something for everyone. Primarily designed as a rubber power model, who will be the first to install Micro Radio Control Equipment in it?

Now a little about the Full-size and more specs about the model

further down the listing. Interested? Please read on!

The Full-size (an actual Full-Size Example Shown in Picture to illustrate just one of the many colour schemes. Please also see pics of the finished covered model)

The Sopwith Triplane single-seat fighter was nicknamed 'Tripehound'. First flown in prototype form on 28 May 1916, it had been evolved as a faster-climbing derivative of the Pup, with even better manoeuvrability and improved vision for the pilot. Wing span remained the same as for the Pup, but each wing was of much narrower chord and had an aileron fitted.

Some say the DR1 was inspired by the ‘Tripehound’ as captured Sopwith Triplanes were known to fall under the scrutiny of Anthony Fokker. Many say the DR1 was a variant of the Fokker DV1 and that the Prototype German Triplanes existed before 1916.

The Sopwith Triplane proved difficult to maintain and so only small numbers were ordered. It was however very popular with the Pilots of RFC who were generally fed up that they could not get their hands on one. Camels were to replace the Tripehound and its air reign only lasted months, similarly the DR1 ended following the death of Richthofen in the first half of 1918.
