This module is a working 5-NB board manufactured and sold by RL Drake as an optional accessory for their SPR-4 receiver. If you own a Drake SPR-4 receiver, you know that it is a great classic receiver dating from 1968 to 1979 and was Drake's first fully solid state general coverage receiver. It's capabilities are legendary and collectors of vintage equipment relish the SPR-4 as a very sensitive receiver. The RL Drake Company did not offer a lot of accessories with the SPR-4, but did make calibrator and noise blanker modules available to enhance listening. In addition, they sold extra crystals to expand the bands available for the user to tune into more frequencies than the factory supplied crystals.

This module is the 5-NB noise blanker that can be installed in a matter of minutes by a non-technical person. You merely remove 6 screws to take off the top cover, remove the jumper cable, and then gently push the noise blanker board into the socket. After replacing the top cover, the noise blanker is installed and ready to use by turning on with the front panel selector.

Drake noise blankers work better than many other noise blankers installed on other receivers of that era. The 5-NB will not get rid of all noise, but will greatly reduce man-made noise coming from pulse sources found from household wiring, fluorescent lamps, lamp dimmers, etc. It will also work on noise that comes from car ignition systems, but will do little to improve random noise generated by atmospheric conditions.

This 5-NB is not easy to come by as it was not a cheap module when originally sold. By installing it in your SPR-4, you can more fully equip your receiver to full operational standards.
