Description

Today we are delighted to offer for sale an antique and all-original Connecticut Telephone & Electric Co candlestick multi-line telephone! This wonderful relic from the early 20th century was manufactured by the Connecticut Telephone & Electric Company of Meriden, CT, one of the early pioneers companies in telephone making. The company is no longer in business. This early 1900's phone features a mouth piece (transmitter) mounted at the top of the stand, and a receiver (ear phone) that was held by the user to the ear during a call. When the telephone was not in use, the receiver rested in the fork of the switch hook protruding to the side of the stand, thereby disconnecting the audio circuit from the telephone network. This rare, multi-line phone is crafted of Bakelite, and brass with a painted ebony finish. Obviously from a sizable mansion (perhaps in nearly Newport, RI), the base features four numbered buttons corresponding with the different phone lines; the shaft features six slots for telephone number plates. The first phone number slot is illegible; the second reads "Mrs Taylor's sewing room", the third reads "Room No. 3 Second Floor", the fourth reads "North Sewing Room" (count them... 2 sewing rooms!). The fifth and sixth are blank. The phone retains all of its' originals parts and finishes; it is a wonderful relic from a bygone era when technology was in its' infancy! Piece presents beautifully and is in good antique condition, with wear and patina commensurate with age and type of use. There is minor oxidation and loss to finish; original felt bottom and rayon cord both have fraying/minor losses. There is a chip on the Bakelite mouthpiece. Item sold as-is. Surely restorable, this elegant telephone will make a wonderful addition to any antique telephone collection; the telephone can be used as a decorative art piece, which will add warmth and vintage vibes to any room in your home or business! A piece not to be missed!
