Aurex SR-510 Turntable (1975), Manual Operation, Vintage and Very Rare

Aurex was Toshiba’s audiophile brand, just like Exclusive was Pioneer’s.  They made some solid, well designed turntables back in the day.  This model is the best Aurex turntable that I am aware of (pre-1980).  They are really iconic and illustrative of the design elements in the mid 70’s, before “Quartz Lock” became a buzzword.  The build quality is exceptional.  This turntable is highly collectible and hard to find in decent condition.  It is definitely a conversation piece in my audio room due to its unique design and large size.  It’s hard for me to let this go, but I’m simply out of space.

Here are some special features of this turntable; there are also matching photos:

  • A very large strobe viewing window:  The strobe dots are machined into the bottom of the platter, and a light and mirror reflect the results through the window.  It is very cool.
  • Leveling bubble:  a built in level helps you adjust the table so it’s perfectly flat
  • Work tray with cartridge holders:  Well-made cartridge holders allow you to store extra headshells
  • Big block aluminum:  the motor assembly, platter housing, strobe, and most of the electronics are part of or attached to a big block.  Very impressive to see.
  • Beautiful solid aluminum 45/EP adapter, with its own holder, on the cabinet
  • Oversize cabinet (wide, 2-3 inches wider than average cabinet) and matching dustcover
  • The mat (original) has a very cool design, with a ring of circular depressions to create a vacuum effect and keep the vinyl in place.
