This listing is for a gorgeous French gilt bronze lidded jewelry casket box from Grand Tour era, c. 1870's. The box is decorated with a beautiful hand painted paintings on porcelain inserts on the top and each side of the box. The four sides have paintings of rural landscapes and the portrait on top is a courting couple with gilt and jeweled border on a cobalt blue background. Each painting is mounted in a raised bezel surrounded with a rope border. Surrounding the top edge and each corner of the box is a beaded border with the top having round "balls" adding to the decoration. The box is mounted onto a frame that is decorated with a larger design that coordinating with the design on the edges of the box. At each corner is a pierced ormolu design attaches to the small ball feet. There is a keyhole cover on the bottom section of the box, however, the top attachment that is needed for the box to lock is missing. The interior of the box has a red felt lining that was most likely added later and the top section shows the unlined back of the porcelain insert. The base is marked "Dubois". This exquisite box would most likely have been originally purchased by a wealthy traveler to Paris during the Grand Tour era of the 19th Century. 
Measures 3 1/2" high, 7 1/4" long (at feet), 6 1/4" long (box only) and is 4 5/8" wide (at feet) and 3 1/2" wide (box only). Weighs 2 pounds. 
The gilt bronze case and the paintings on porcelain inserts are all in excellent Estate condition with no noted flaws although a few of the white porcelain beads (jewels) surrounding the painting on the top are missing. The top of the box at front closes nicely, however, the small piece that is necessary to use the locking mechanism is missing. The interior is clean but a new more appropriate lining is recommended. Overall, this box is amazing and truly belongs in a treasured collection!
