January 1942 Couponized Check Issue

By January 1942 the shortage of small denomination currency was so acute that the Provincial Treasury experienced difficulty in paying government employees and salaried personnel found it difficult to cash their paychecks. To alleviate this situation the Provincial Board, On January 13, 1942, authorized the Provincial Board to issue couponized checks  in small denominations. They were made payable to bearer and were drawn in the deposits of the provincial government in the Philippine National Bank.

The couponized checks were printed by NALCO PRESS on white bond paper. They have printed facsimile signatures of Provincial Treasurer Nicolas Encarnacion and Acting Provincial Auditor Ceferino Ramos. Originally the centavo notes were of the same size and design as the peso notes were altered in design and printed in a smaller size.

When President Quezon authorized the provincial government to print emergency currency on January 20, further printing of these checks became unnecessary. (taken from Krause World (taken from Krause World Paper Money Catalogue )

ABOUT US PHILIPPINES BANKNOTES

I noticed that the catalogue value of the US Philippine notes have increased dramatically over the past 4 years. With the high demand for US Philippines Banknote, the supply in our county is getting scarcer even for the common ones. Even in our local and international auctions good bank notes seldom appear. Unlike coins which is easy to keep and preserve, paper money are demonetized and destroyed by the banks and with our humid climate these notes have deteriorated in time. Start buying now !!! These notes are good investment that I guarantee.
