THIS BOOK IS THE NINTH IN THE SERIES FEATURING SCOTLAND YARD INSPECTOR, THOMAS LYNLEY, AND DETECTIVE SERGEANT, BARBARA HAVERS.

ELIZABETH GEORGE HAS, MOST DESERVEDLY, ACHIEVED GREAT CRITICAL AND COMMERCIAL SUCCESS IN HER FIELD.

I was lucky enough to be in on the excitement of Elizabeth George's mysteries from the very beginning...

I was a bookseller at The Booksmith, here in San Francisco. My husband at the time was a sales rep for Bantam Doubleday Dell. I read the first book as his advance reader's copy and was captivated by it. Through him, I became friendly with EG's editor at Bantam, Kate Miciak. For years, she made sure I had early access to the series, sometimes even sending me copies ahead of the uncorrected proofs. I will be forever grateful - I loved this series!!!

Elizabeth George crafts superb plots - every tiny detail ties together in her impeccable solutions. She creates complex characters. The evolution of the relationships between Lynley and his colleagues and friends is equally, if not more, fascinating than the mystery itself. She conveys a vivid sense of place; she writes so well about the UK that many readers were surprised to learn that she was an American.

She came through San Francisco on several book tours, so I was able to get pretty much everything signed eventually.

I am sad to part with these, but sincerely hope that they will find happy new homes with other collectors of George's wonderful work.

DECEPTION ON HIS MIND

ELIZABETH GEORGE'S INSCRIPTION READS:

To / Joan - / With best wishes / from the author / Elizabeth George / 18 July 1997

This copy is in very good condition. The one problem keeping me from rating it as "like new" is that there are brown spots along the edges of the pages - visible when book is closed. The dust jacket is clean, no rips or creases. The black board and cloth spine binding is in fantastic condition - no dents or marks. Interior pages are crisp and clean - no marks or rips. Binding is perfectly secure. There is some faint discoloration around the edges of the jacket flaps.

I received this new and take very good care of my books in my smoke-free environment.

Please see photos to get a sense of condition, inscription and design.
