Stone Mountain Memorial
Mint set of 4 stamps issued in 1970 in
conjunction with the dedication of the
Stone Mountain Confederate Memorial
on May 9th, 1970.
It depicts three Southern Heroes:
General Robert E. Lee,
Confederate President Jefferson Davis
and General Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson.
Conceived in the early 1900’s, the Memorial’s
carving history includes three sculptors and
spans 52 years with literally hundreds of
individuals at work. 90% of the carvings were
completed in the last 6 years using a thermo jet torch.
These stamps are 53 years old.
Each set of 4 stamps includes a protective stamp mount,
and is post office fresh suitable for framing or
for mounting in your scrapbook.
