"The Art of Flight" 1987 article from Print Magazine

Description

Great article with beautiful photos of planes, paint schemes, posters, ads, parts and more. These are the original pages from the article that appeared in the January/February 1987 issue of "Print", America's Graphic Design Magazine.

By Frederic Winkowski and Frank D. Sullivan

Beautiful objects in themselves, airplanes and what they symbolize--speed, liberation, the romance of the infinite--have profoundly affected the visual arts, graphic design not excepted.

Editor's Note:  Man has always been fascinated by the romance and adventure of flight.  When at last we succeeded in building flying machines that could fly, they were greeted with awe and admiration.  As they evolved from the first clumsy box-kite construction of the Wright Brothers in 1903 through the streamlined metal monoplanes of the 1930s, they served--both by virtue of their intrinsic structural beauty and in their response to a universal dream--as a source of inspiration to artists of every description, from painters and sculptors to writers and architects.  In this article, a preview of a book now in preparation, the authors offer a view of the ways in which airplanes have influenced the visual arts of our century.

Pages are in excellent condition, obviously printed on high quality paper due to nature of the magazine they appeared in.  Paper is bright white with all photos and pictures being very bright and vivid.  One minor bend on first page along left side.  Page #'s of magazine noted on bottom of each page:  #63 - 75. Page 76 is included, but is reverse side of 75 and does not pertain to the article.  Article is printed on six double side pages and page 75 for a total of 7 magazine pages.  Page size is 8 1/2" x 12".  Total of 13 page sides--all of which are scanned and included in this listing so buyer can see total article and all great photos included.

I will place pages in plastic sleeve and secure between two pieces of white foamcore to protect during shipment.
