This AGJ original Maki-e Fountain pen is made by famous Kaga Maki-e Artisan "Shuh-koh".
This design is an AGJ's original. You can not find anywhere else.
Kaga Maki-e is the best known Maki-e technique in Japan.
This is original Maki-e fountain pen based on Sailor fountain pen, King of Pen.

The first process of Maki-e work : 30 days.
1. Burnish the whole area and paint t Shuai-urushi)
2. Stick the pieces of eggshell on the snow part of Mt. Fuji.
3. Sprinkle Gold powder(#8) and flat Gold Powder(Hirame) on the cap and body, and blur them.
   Then dry it and stick it with shiny Urushi(Shuai-Urushi).
4. After drying, the design is revealed by burnishing.
   Process 2,3 and 4 take 20 days.

The second process of Maki-e work : 25 days
1. Cherry blossoms and buds are created using small pieces of shells into the lacquered surface.
2. On the Cherry blossoms and buds, Urushi is painted and Gold powders are sprinkled.
   After dry it, Pink color Urushi is coated on them, then dry it and burnish(Togi-dashi) it.
3. Gold powder is used to bring up Pine tree in high relief.
   Paint green color Urushi on it and then, dry and burnish(Togidashi) it.
4. Two cranes are painted with Urushi and paste them with Kiri-gane (very thin Gold flakes).
   Then, sprinkle #6 gold powder on them and dry, and burnish it.
5. Paint cherry blossom, pine tree and two cranes and sprinkle #3 gold powder on them. Dry and finish it.
6. To smooth the scraped surface, rub with charcoal powder and water. This process is repeated many times to polish.
7. Give it the special polish and burnish for unique glossy luster.

The total working days : 55 days for the first and second processes.

Hira Maki-e
1. Urushi lacquer
2. Sprinkle Gold powder, Seikin: Alloy of Gold, Silver powder, Hirame and so on
3. Coated by Uwazuri and Black urushi
4. Polish by polishing and grindstone powders

Togidashi Maki-e (Mainly used for finishing evenly the background)
1. Urushi lacquer
2. Sprinkle Gold powder, Seikin: Alloy of Gold, Silver powder, Hirame and so on
3. Coated thickly by Nashiji and Black urushi
4. Burnished the urushi lacquer by charcoal
5. Polish by polishing and grindstone powders

• When coarse gold/silver/Hirame/Seikin powders are sprinkled, put a luster by burnished.
• After togidashi maki-e, Togidashi Hira maki-e is decorated Hira maki-e on togidashi maki-e.
• After togidashi maki-e, Togidashi Taka maki-e is decorated Taka maki-e on togidashi maki-e.
• Burnishing is needed when coarse powders are sprinkled.

Taka Maki-e
1. The design is created using urushi lacquer
2. Sprinkle charcoal/Silver powders to raise the layer
3. Dry
4. Spread urushi twice to make the layer thicker
5. Sprinkle gold/silver/Hirame/Seikin powders
6. Coat by Urushi
7. Burnish
8. Polish

• Charcoal powder: Show a soft feeling
• Silver powder: Feel solid

Tsukegaki Maki-e
1. Spread Urushi lacquer thickly
2. Sprinkle gold powder
3. Gold powders sink due to thick urushi
4. Do Togidashi
5. Gold powders shine
6. Polish
