Offered for sale is a Herman Miller Incidental Occasional Child Side Folding Table IT-1 designed in 1947 by Charles and Ray Eames. It is an early table, perhaps first-issue from the late 1940s or early 50s with the original wood grain plastic laminate top and steel legs. The legs have a matte, polished-steel finish, and the legs don't splay out as in the later reproductions or heavily used tables.

Condition is good to very good. Moderate signs of age and use. Structurally sound with all clips and screws intact and tight. No warping. Legs are solid and sturdy. Leg finish shows some oxidation and signs of age, and some small areas of finish loss. No shoes. "Birch-wood" plastic laminate table-top shows light use with no damage, no major scratches, and no stains. (One small white spot on the top is under the laminate.) Table edges show light to moderate dings and staining. Underside of table top shows a few small areas of veneer loss, small areas of loss of paint, scratches, and some drip stains (probably from orange juice or something similar.)

"The Herman Miller Company and the Eames team were pioneers in introducing plastic laminate, including wood-grain plastic laminate, to the marketplace. They appreciated plastic laminate for its durability and ease of maintenance."

Included with this table is a lift-off, removable, heavy-glass top, custom-made by DC Glass, with a rounded pencil-ground edge and rounded corners to match the table corners. The underside of the glass top is painted brown. It is a later addition by an owner. It gives the table two color and finish options. Please see photos. The glass top is solid brown in color. In the photos, the glass top is seen reflecting the background painting. The glass top cost over $250 new.
