But what does PVD plasma production actually mean?

Contacts must be protected against corrosion. For connectors worldwide, this is done almost exclusively using electroplating technology. WBT However, we are the first manufacturer of connectors to replace electroplating with the much more precise PVD technology. The new nanotechnology is replacing the outdated electroplating technology. For this process, the signal conductors made of pure copper are removed from contamination in a high-current polishing system and the surface is polished to a high shine. This happens entirely without any harmful chemical additives. The resulting surface is absolutely pure, without chemical inclusions, so-called defects. The conductor is then physically finely gold-plated using the PVD process (Physical Vapor Deposition). In this, atomic gold is released by a plasma discharge ignited in a high vacuum. This gold is literally shot onto the copper conductor in a vacuum and is thereby atomically bound* and thus inextricably anchored (*van der Waals forces). The result is a homogeneous material composite with a surface made of 24-carat gold.

And why plasma of all things?

Why plasma is easy to explain. With the nextgen ™ principle, WBT has already made the beginning of an environmentally oriented technology change. The switch from galvanic surface coating to plasma is the consistent continuation of this basic idea. In contrast to environmentally harmful electroplating technology, the plasma process does not require toxic electroplating baths and is therefore environmentally neutral. The energy requirement is also reduced by approx. 25%. Valuable precious metals can also be used in a resource-saving manner.

What does that do to the sound?

The atomically bonded gold creates a hard and flexible surface that is scratch and abrasion resistant. What is more important, however, is the structure in the material itself. The PVD plasma process creates a crystalline, ordered structure. Since electricity is direction-dependent, this structure enables even more precise signal flow and therefore unrivaled signal quality. While the nextgen ™ connectors have so far contributed to improving the sound with more clarity, substance and spaciousness, with WBT-PlasmaProtect ™ the sound appears to be much more defined. While you always wish you could hear the orchestra playing in your own living room, you now have the feeling that you are in the middle of the orchestra.
