SPHAERALCEA COCCINEA, SCARLET GLOBEMALLOW

(HARDY PERENNIAL)

This delightful, small, colourful plant is native to grasslands and prairies of the Great Plains and western regions of northern North America. It has grayish stems with dense hairs and palmately lobed greenish-grey leaves to 5 cm long. The saucer-shaped reddish-orange flowers 3-4 cm wide appear in clustes at the tips of the branches, adding a pop of colour to any area. Perfect plant for places where other plants do not grow -with dry, very poor soils and full sun. Nice ground-cover. Long lived and undemanding. Used in ethnomedicine. Flowers first year from sowing.
