A fabulous accessory item for larger scale FRENCH FASHION and other antique dolls, as this sweet little book has festive HOLIDAY COLORS with an embossed rich red color and fancy GILDED EMBELLISHMENTS, captivating the interest of collectors of ANTIQUE BOOKS, MINIATURES, as well as ANTIQUE DOLLS!

An earlier publication circa 1847, the book measures a DIMINUTIVE 5 1/2" tall by 4 5/8" wide and is 3/8" thick, with it's original Christmas red EMBOSSED COVER and decorative spine which has beautiful GOLD SCROLLING and the name of the book, "MERRY AND WISE"!   As the inside page reveals, the book was published by "Fisher and Brothers" out of Philadelphia and other east coast locations, with this particular book being one of their "home juvenile tales", offering anecdotal stories for children featuring two main characters, youths James Hardy and Harry Woodley.  Inside the book is page after page of DELIGHTFUL STORIES, with six vivid COLORED ENGRAVINGS depicting the young men in various scenarios, including images of children and family!  The book also has some wonderful ORIGINAL PROVENANCE, as one of its pages bears the embossed seal of the original merchant that offered it, "S. Oswald Book, Stationery and Drug Store" located in York, PA!

The book has some condition issues; there is a torn corner on the first engraving, some wear on the spine and front cover, as well as normal age foxing to the interior pages, but it is totally COMPLETE and ALL ORIGINAL, ready for display in the most ADVANCED COLLECTIONS!

This lovely RARE miniature book would make what an ENCHANTING ACCESSORY item for an antique doll; although a larger scale French Fashion or Bebe would be a more suitable scale, our 13" Poupee, not included in our offering, delights in doing the modeling honors-------doesn't YOUR favorite doll need that special book for her library?
