This is a pair of replacement switches for Vauxhall Ampera / Opel Ampera / Chevrolet Volt Mk1 door handles. It is supplied with cable splicers, or you can use your own connection method such as soldering and heat-shrink tubing if preferred. The wires are PTFE insulated, please do NOT use a lighter to try & melt the ends clean!!! 4 Heat-shrink sleeves are provided in the kit, not shown in the pictures though.
The final result looks exactly like the original door handle, as the shiny metal cap on the original button is re-used.

If you want just 1 switch, or 4, please click my "See other items" button which will show these.

I supply a printed PDF guide with plenty of step-by-step pictures ( 6 posted here).
I also supply a rubber grommet to fill the hole in the driver's side door, if you have to remove a nasty metal bung to get access. Details in the PDF.

I will attempt to post items promptly, but as I'm a one man outfit, there may be a delay if I'm away on holiday! Please bear with me!

The original switch has a tendency to fail, and 99% of the time the problem is not with the transmitter unit, it's the click-switch itself that fails. This has a flexible steel buckling-plate which clicks down onto a piece of standard circuit board, which is not particularly strong. My replacement has a high quality sealed switch rated IP67 and a lifetime of 3,000,000 operations, mounted inside a 3D printed ABS case which is a straight swap for the OEM item.

The picture shows trimmed splicers. The trimmed splicers fit inside the front handles where space is limited as there is a transmitter unit fitted inside. The rear handles have more space as no transmitter unit is fitted.

The Dismantler Tool makes the job of separating the handle straightforward. Two sections are clipped together, and it's almost impossible to separate them without clamping the handle in a vice and using extreme force. My tool springs the halves apart from the middle, until you can unclip them with a tiny screwdriver blade. No vice is needed.

The Dismantler Tool consists of an M6 socket cap screw, M6 square nut, and a small steel plate. The corners of the plate are chamfered and rounded off to eliminate damage to the interior of the handle.

Replacement of the broken switch is a straightforward diy job, but you do this ENTIRELY AT YOUR OWN RISK. The difficult part is separating the handle halves, and there's a remote chance that one part might snap. I am not prepared to be held responsible if yours snaps. See the pics showing the inner moulding flexing as the cap screw is tightened!

The broken switch is replaced without any need to remove the internal door trim panels. You do not need to disconnect any wiring. Time taken should be about 1/2 an hour. You will need the following tools:
  • Torx T25 key, resembling a hex key but knobblier. Undoes the handle from the car.
  • Torx T20 key for the driver's side anti-tamper bung and handle.
  • Small flat-blade screwdriver with approx 2mm blade to unclip the handle halves.
  • Pair pliers, ideally thick nose, or Mole-wrench or similar. Used to compress the splicers onto the wires.
  • Pair of pliers or side cutters or snips, used to cut the old wires. If necessary you can use nail clippers, kitchen scissors (but don't let the chef catch you!).
  • 5mm Hex Key, used to operate the Dismantler Tool. Or use pliers.
  • I recommend you apply some silicone grease or Vaseline liberally over the splicers once they're squeezed tight. They're designed to make a gas-tight join to the wires, but any extra anti-moisture barrier is probably a good thing for long-term reliability.
While you're here, I also supply replacement  clips for the trampline in the boot; the originals have a tendency to snap, so if yours have broken, click on "See other items" for details. I also supply plastic supports for the aftermarket Voltshelf that some owners have; these replace the bent metal hooks which come with that kit. I also supply an AmpyShelf kit that adapts a Renault Megane parcel shelf to fit Ampera/Volt Mk1, if you prefer a lighter and more typical parcel shelf.

If you order at the same time, I'll combine postage as far as poss & refund any overpayment.
