Original page was rescued from a 1929 issue of Modern Homemaking magazine. The page was in poor condition, so in order to save the great work, I had it enhanced and reprinted by a local print shop.
So this is a computer printed page, not an original old magazine page.
I came across this while paging through the old magazine. I loved both the poem and the drawing of the lady going through old memorabilia in her attic.
The page is 11" high x 8 1/2" wide. The actual drawing and poem cover a 6 1/4" x 8" area. Print could easily be matted to make ready for a frame.
Poem is as follows:
Part I
On rainy days I slip away alone, And climb the narrow stairs where cobwebs sway, Like fairy lace hung by some unseen hand Beneath the attic roof...and there I stay in close companionship with olden things That bring me memories of things I knew And loved before they found a resting place, Beneath the roof, as olden things will do.
Part II
That horsehair sofa in the corner there, Could tell a tale of romance in its day! That faded piece of tapestry across A broken chair was once quite bright and gay! A patchwork quilt!...
It seems I see the hands That gathered bits of homespun through the years, The flashing needle, and the tiny seams...Somehow, my eyes grow dim with sudden tears.
Part III
Old picture - frames adorn forgotten walls, With timid faces peering through the glass, Until it seems they smile and nod to me, Remembering old visions as they pass. A cradle...and a spinning-wheel are here, Old andirons...and a battered silver cup...A trunk, with rounded top...ah, well I know Its dear things if I lift its cover up!
Part IV
A wedding - dress of ivory...a fan With cherubs painted on it, pink-and-white... A rose whose withered petals bring again The happiness of someone's wedding night...Dusk settles through the attic, and I grope Reluctantly to find my way below...Eyes blinded with hot tears for attic things That whisper in the night of things they know.
I'll place the print inside a plastic sleeve and add a piece of white foam board for protection while mailing by USPS Ground Advantage in a bubble envelope.
I'll mail the same day, or next day after payment is received.
