Antique Japanese Imari plate mid-Edo era 1740-70 Chenghua mark handpainted #2510



Object: Imari plate from the mid-Edo period (1740-70), decorated in underglaze blue as well as overglaze red, green, pink, aubergine and gold.


Decoration: Two reserves with a landscape, two with a shishi (a mythical oriental lion-dog).


Size: Diameter 19 cm (7.5").  A similar but smaller plate can be found in the catalogue of the Shibata collection, Vol. IV, number 150

Marks: "Dai Min sei ka nen sei" in Japanese kanji characters (underglaze blue) - a spurious Chinese Chenghua mark.

State: Excellent - no chips, cracks or repairs. 

 

NOTE: Sometimes we sell a set of items (e.g. five cups, six plates) one by one.
