Before you start

Only apply the furniture oil on a warm day with the temperature above 10ºC and make sure rain isn’t forecast.

This furniture oil cannot cover paint or stains.

Preparation

  1. If your old furniture already has paint or varnish on it, you will need to use a furniture stripper to remove it or sand it away.
  2. Once the wood is bare, lightly sand the surface so it’s smooth.
  3. Use white spirit to wipe down the furniture and remove grease or dirt.

New furniture just needs to be lightly sanded to remove splinters.

Application

  1. Make sure the wood is completely dry before you begin.
  2. Follow the instructions on the tub to assemble the application pad.
  3. Stir the oil using a paint brush handle or a wooden spoon.
  4. Dip in the pad and test the colour on a small hidden section to make sure you’re happy with it.
  5. If you are, apply the oil. Push or pull the pad in the direction of the grain and use the angled edge to reach between slats.
  6. Wait four hours for the first coat to dry.
  7. For the best results, apply three coats leaving four hours between each coat.

Aftercare

Cleaning

To keep your finish looking its best, regularly clean your furniture with a cloth to remove marks and stains.

Oil can be washed out of fabric in warm soapy water.

Maintenance

You will notice the colour begin to fade over time. To keep it in top condition, re-apply the oil once every 12 months.

If you notice any damage, just apply another coat to maintain protection.
