French Polish

Rustins French Polish will produce a high gloss finish when it is applied as per traditional french polishing techniques and according to instructions, with the alcohol content evaporating rapidly leaving a film of shellac on the surface of the timber.

Preparation: Wood should be clean and smooth. If the grain is open, fill with Rustins Grainfiller. Furniture that is to be renovated should be cleaned with White or Methylated Spirits and fine wire wool to ensure that it is free from grease and wax.

Application: Shake thoroughly before use. Apply with a rubber made by wrapping a piece of cotton wool in a cotton or linen rag the size of a handkerchief. Pour polish into rubber and squeeze out excess, dab a spot of linseed oil on the rubber, and work in a circle of eight motion. Apply as many coats as required to build a sufficient layer of shellac.

Drying Time: Leave 24 hours after last coat to harden.
Re-coating Time: 4-6 hours
Application Temp.: Use in a warm, dry atmosphere, ideally 15- 25 deg C
Coverage: 12-15 SqMtrs/ litre/ coat
