This is a Antique Vintage Renaissance Primitive Clay Pottery Earthen Bottle Neck Vase. It stands 15" tall and 9" wide and the widest point of the vase. The neck is 2" in diameter. There appears to be 4 Roman Soldiers painted on the side as though they are marching with shields. There is also some zig zag black pattern marks painted circling the area above the painted soldiers and below them. The zig zag black lines are very faded under the soldiers. There are small knicks all over this piece. There is a chip on the bottom edge. There is what appears to be a repaired crack where the neck meets the body of the vase. The neck is very secure to the body of the vase and the vase can easily be picked up with just the neck. One shouldn't do this. It has a small hole right below the lip of the bottle neck that looks as though it is intentional. The hole is about the size of pencil lead. See photos. It appears to have been painted a bronze color originally and has faded away to a patina color. The unpainted clay on the bottom looks a manilla color. It weighs 5 lbs. 5 oz. This looks very old. I am not an expert in this field but this looks anceint. I picked it up at a thrift store so have no history on it. There are no markings that I could find on this piece. Happy vasing!
