This design is a representation Model of a Rotative Beam Engine
with a Watt's parallel motion. The model is based on elements from several different Beam
Engine designs, but it is mainly based on the design of a “Sterling Steam Engine”. The
Beam Engine used a horizontal bean to convert vertical piston travel to
flywheel rotation via a connecting rod and crank. The
Model features a Watt's parallel motion; a complex arrangement of rods is designed to
support the crosshead whilst converting the motion at the end of the beam,
which scribes an arc, to the linear vertical movement of the piston rod.
The models are produced in house on a 3d SLA printer using UV photo polymer resins, creating a detailed model with a smooth surface, ready for final sprue removal, light sanding, priming and then painting.
