A deep purple-red form of well known great plantain. Large shiny leaves create an impressive and elegant, tropical-looking rosette. The flowers are insignificant. This plant has amazingly good ornamental value and moreover it is practically a grow-anywhere plant (although foliage colour is best in full sun). Ideal for edging, front of border, in rockeries or containers. Extremaly easy, hardy and showy. Used in medicine and in kitchen. Loved by honey-bees.
