Tenjiku Tokubei riding a giant toad (天竺徳兵衛 ) by Utagawa Kuniyoshi, 1825–1830.

Tenjiku Tokubei (1612 – 1692) was a Japanese adventurer and writer, who was famous for his travels
in China, Vietnam, Thailand, and India.
Eventually he was reimagined in kabuki theatre plays as a powerful magician and became a very popular character.

In this composition Tokubei, dressed in elaborate golden robes, is straddling a giant fire-breathing frog with bulging eyes.
He is making a magical sign with his fingers!
