Java Fern

All six options are epiphytic plants allowing them to grow on wood and rock.
Pteropus and Narrow Leaf are also adventicious, propogating small plants from the underside of their leaves.
Very easy to grow
Do not fully plant rhizome in substrate/gravel

1. Microsorum pteropus  - Java Fern
Microsorum pteropus is a water fern from Asia and can grow 15-30 cm tall. To be grown on a root or stone, attached with fishing line until it has gained a hold. If planted in the bottom, do not cover the rhizome because it will rot. Easy to propagate by splitting the horizontal rhizome. A hardy plant that grows in all conditions. The black spots under the leaves are sporangia (reproductive organs), not signs of disease, as many believe
2. Microsorum pteropus "Narrow Leaf"
Microsorum pteropus is a highly variable species, and new varieties are easily bred. Microsorum pteropus 'Narrow' has narrower leaves, which grow at a less acute angle from the stem than the normal Microsorum pteropus. Leaves becomes 10-20 cm and a rhizome from 10-15 cm or more. The plant attaches readily to roots and stones. A decorative plant, which is also suitable for smaller aquariums.
3. Microsorum Pteropus Windelov
The Microsorum variety becomes 15-20 cm tall and wide.
A hardy and easy plant for both beginners and the more experienced. Best results are obtained by planting it on a stone or tree root. If planted in the bottom the horizontal rhizome must not be covered. This plant is not eaten by herbivorous fish.
4. Microsorum Pteropus Trident
Microsorum pteropus ‘Trident’ is a narrow-leaved, smaller form of Microsorum, which like other Microsorum is an easy and safe plant. ’Trident’ is both suitable for beginners, as well as the experienced scaper, and fits both smaller and larger aquariums.
The name ’Trident’ tells that the plant leafs are tripartite, while the leaves can vary from whole to multipartite. Suitable for planting on stones or tree roots. When planted on the bottom layer, avoid covering the horizontal stalk. New, small plants are often created on the leaf tips, and can carefully be pulled off and planted.

5. Microsorum Windelov Twisted Leaf
Similar to Widelov, hence the name, Windelov Twisted features the same fine branched tips at a larger scale. Windelov Twisted is also larger in size and similar to most Microsorum Pteropus species, which will not be eaten by herbivorous fish species! Java fern is one of the most popular aquarium plants in the hobby due to its beauty and easy care. They can grow in low light conditions and a wide range of water parameters.
6. Microsorum Pteropus Petite
A fantastic mini version of the popular java fern. Microsorum 'Petite' is more suited to smaller aquariums or nano tanks, and in larger aquria to create a sense of scale. Like all Java Fern it requires attaching to wood. If planted in the bottom of the aquarium you should not cover the rhizome because it will rot. As the leaves are smaller this plant can be used to create a bigger sense of scale within the aquarium.
