Shungite Information
Shungite is a unique stone occurring in Karelia, Russia and estimated at
being over 2 billion years old. It is a type of carbon consisting of varying
concentrations of Fullerenes, being the 3rd type of Carbon (the
other forms of pure carbon are graphite and diamond)
The Nobel prize was awarded in Chemistry in 1996 to several professors
for their discovery of Fullerenes. Fullerenes are a carbon molecule of 60 or
more atoms. They are also referred to as Buckyballs due to the molecular shape
being similar in appearance to geodesic domes designed by the architect
Buckmeister Fuller.
It is thought that the hollow shape of the molecular structure is the
reason that fullerenes have a cancelling out / dampening effect on EMF and
electronic pollution. They also have a biological cleansing effect on water.
These properties of Shungite have been extensively researched by mainly
Russian scientists over many decades and various scientific experiments about
the numerous properties have been recorded.
The healing properties of springs running through Shungite in Karelia
have been known about since before Peter the Great.
Elite or Noble Shungite which has the glossy metallic sheen has carbon
concentrations of around 98%. This is also the rarer form and about 1% of mined
Shungite and is the more expensive version. The lower form of Shungite having
the duller appearance is the one most commonly sold in various shapes and sizes
such as cubes, pyramids etc. This more common form has carbon concentrations of
50 to 70%
Elite Shungite cannot be processed into
specific shapes due to it being very brittle.
As a Water
Purifier
Wash /
rinse the stones prior to using for water purification to remove traces of dust
etc due to the manufacturing processes.
Shungite
can be used as a biological purifier of water by leaving stones in a container
of water for at least 24 hours. It is recommended that a ceramic or glass
container is used.
This time
will vary due to the type of Shungite and whether a larger quantity of stones
relative to water are used. Elite Shungite will produce faster results.
After
extended use, a film may build onto the surface of stones. This can be removed
by rubbing the surface with a sponge under running water. The film may be a
collection of chemical and metal impurities that have been attracted to
the Shungite. This purifying action of Shungite has been scientifically
recorded.
It is also
said that having Shungite stones around the top of a potted plant will result
in more vigorous growth.
