One packet of 40 or more seeds.

Allium flavum nanum is a small perennial yellow allium (onion, garlic) suitable for a small flower bed, rock garden, or alpine container garden. A thin stem rises in the midst of grass-like foliage to lift a head of dozens of bright yellow flowers that appear to burst open like a firework. Blooms through late spring and early summer. Plants from small clumps over time and may self-sow and naturalize in favourable conditions. Alliums are a very attractive food source for bees and butterflies.

Seeds are collected in 2022 and 2021 from the plants in the pictures, grown in our gardens in Edmonton, Canada: zone 3 (to -35C).

The sowing should be exposed to cold winter and gradually warming spring temperatures to enable germination of dormant seeds. Sow onto moistened all-purpose potting mix and cover seeds with coarse sand or grit. After 2-4 weeks at room temperature, move the sowing outdoors in winter and cover with snow, if available; or keep it in a refrigerator for around six weeks and then move it outdoors into gradually warming spring temperatures.
