One packet of more than 50 seeds

Sisyrinchium montanum, Blue-Eyed Grass, is a summer-blooming perennial North American wild flower. Many small, light blue, yellow-eyed, star-like flowers are produced on thin stems among grassy foliage. A member of the Iris family, the plant's foliage somewhat resembles a miniature Siberian iris. Grow in full sun in a meadow or rock garden, an alpine trough (container garden) or a pot.

Seeds are collected in 2022 from the plants pictured, grown from wild seed, in Edmonton, Canada: hardiness zone 3 (to -35C).

Seeds are dormant and require seasonal temperature changes to break dormancy. It is best to sow them outdoors in autumn or early winter so that they will be exposed to fluctuating temperatures in late winter and early spring. Some seeds will germinate in the first spring. Some may need a second cycle of seasonal temperatures. Refrigeration is unlikely to be effective; the seeds require several weeks of actual winter and spring temperatures to break dormancy.

Seedlings will bloom in early summer of their second year. After four or five years, small clumps may be divided into several plants.
