One packet of more than 60 seeds.
Mixed colours and forms.

Primula sieboldii blooms in early summer in a wide range of pink shades from near-white to magenta. Every new plant is unique and surprising. The variety of colour patterns and petal forms appears endless. Flower stems rise above loose clusters of lobed leaves that can make an attractive spring ground cover in light shade in a moist woodland bed, in a loose, organic soil in which the creeping rootstocks can easily spread about. Grow them as well in a cool, lightly shaded rock garden, a moist meadow, or at the front of a flower border under a moisture-retaining mulch such as shredded bark or leaf mould.

Seeds are collected in from the plants pictured, and others, grown in Edmonton, Canada: hardiness zone 3 (to -35C).

Sow seeds in pots or seed trays. Surface sow and press into moist potting mix and cover lightly with sand or grit. Do not bury the seeds; they need light to germinate. Give the sowing a cold period -- outdoors under snow cover or in a refrigerator -- for 6 weeks or longer. Bring the sowing back to room temperature, or leave it outdoors in a sheltered location -- in light shade, or protected from direct midday sun -- and seeds will germinate in gradual spring warmth. Do not allow germinating seeds or young seedlings to dry out. If seedlings become crowded, move them into a larger tray or separate pots. Move young plants into the garden in late summer. Cover them with deep snow (if available) in winter. Expect flowers the following spring and for many years to come.
