From
a reviewer:
This cookbook is one of the best
I've ever seen. I am a cookbook collector and I always look to this book when
cooking for special occasions. I've never cooked something in this book that I
didn't get rave reviews from my guests. Also, even though the book is not the
thickest one out there, it is very through. Bon Appetite!

taped in one area. Both dj and cover have some spotting. Very small

Betty Crocker Biography:
Since 1921, the Betty Crocker name has
symbolized the General Mills continuing tradition of service to consumers.
Although Betty was never a real person, her name and identity have become
synonymous with helpfulness, trustworthiness and quality.
Betty Crocker has survived the decades by
providing consumers with food information and food products that are
contemporary without being faddish. The first hardcover cookbook, Betty
Crocker’s Picture Cookbook was published in 1950 and quickly became a national
best seller. Since then, more than 250 Betty Crocker cookbooks have been
published.
From a reviewer:
I had a copy of this book when I was a newlywed in the sixties. The original
finally fell apart. The book I received now was in great shape and it was so
good to know that it was so easy to find on Amazon.
Even though it is slightly dated now, there are
still recipes that are handy for basic cooking. Of course, there is the
sentimental value.

From a reviewer:
I now have 12 of the 17 books in the series and I love every one of them. I
make bread almost every day and the pictures in this book helped me to
understand what they wanted me to do in how to mix and knead the dough. Each
recipe is 4 pages and on the last page there are ideas for other things you can
make with that same recipe (adding some flavoring or some such). How can I
really go wrong when I bake the bread and my boys (4, 7) ask me to make those
breads more often?!

From a reviewer:
… add to a collection
of cook books I'm putting together for my daughter's hope chest. Lots of good
topping, sauce and crust variations. A good book for "follow the
recipe" type cooks, and a great spring board for cooks like me who often-as-not
use cook books for tasty ideas and variations then just wing it. Some of the
crust recipes offered in this book have become my 'base' standbys though, and
some of the combinations would never have occurred to me without this book.

Basic Microwaving
(Microwave Cooking Library) [Hardcover] Barbara Methven (Author), Michael
Jensen (Photographer), Warren Reynolds (Photographer), Jack Mithun
(Photographer), Ken Greer (Photographer)
From my own personal review:
After several chapters covering the microwave appliance itself, including the science behind how the machine works to cook food, this book goes into several techniques to achieve better results. Recipes begin with beverages and cover a wide variety of recipes for individual courses with the goal of complete meals in mind. Convenience foods are not left out, and even candy making is included! With full-color, step-by-step instructions, even a beginner cook can learn to feed his or herself, or for a few.

Here is a veritable gold mine of regional and
traditional food which includes hundreds of treasured family recipes gathered
from American housewives in 42 states and a few specialties from famous
restaurants, governors' mansions and even the dining room of the U.S. Senate.
Some dishes were served at formal meals in elegant settings, others were
sampled at clambakes, picnics and barbecues. Every type of food is included,
from hearty soups to tempting desserts, and because American women have always
been particularly proud of their baking skills, there are recipes galore for
breads, biscuits and rolls, pies, cakes and cookies. Originally published as
"How America Eats", this new edition contains all of the more 800
superb recipes collected by Clementine Paddleford on her energetic travels from
Maine to California, Florida to Alaska. As food editor of 'This Week' magazine
and the 'New York Herald Tribune she had a large and devoted following, and
readers who may have clipped and saved recipes from her columns will rejoice to
find the best of them preserved in book form. Every cook will welcome the
variety of new and "different" dishes to be found here. All recipes
were tested by the Herald Tribune Home Institute prior to their original
publication.
From a reviewer:
"The Best in
American Cooking" is a volume of recipes collected by once famous food
writer, Clementine Paddleford. These recipes were first collected for her 1960
book, "How America Eats", which includes her distinctive essays on
the people and locations behind the recipes. This volume was published three
years after her death in 1967, and presents the recipes without her commentary.
These recipes are interesting, and tell us a lot
about our American food heritage. But for anyone wanting to prepare these
dishes, I recommend Kelly Alexander's 2008 biography of Clementine Paddleford,
"Hometown Appetites". This book includes more than 50 of the
recipes, updated for the modern cook. The
biography is very interesting and well written, reviving interest in a
fascinating journalist
who'd been all but forgotten.
"How America Eats" can be a fairly
expensive book, and "The Best in American Cooking" is much more
affordable. For someone who likes to study old recipes and tinker with them,
the latter is a great resource.

Since the release of "Just a Matter of Thyme" two years ago, the company of "Among Friends" has been receiving requests each day for the "next book".
Owners, Shelly Reeves Smith and Roxie Kelley,
have encouraged employees, customers and friends of the business to literally
take this job into their own hands, and share their very best recipes for this
publication. After months of testing (and tasting) by the Among Friends crew,
Shelly graced the pages of Heart & Soul with her artful explanation of each
simple, but truly-satisfying recipe.
The addition of the "Heart Smart"
section, and helpful household hints scattered throughout make this book a
perfect gift for cooks of any age.
Among Friends invites you to put your
"heart and soul" into the pages of this more-than-a-cookbook-book.
And then, of course, share it with a friend.
This is in LIKE NEW condition. I picked this up brand new in the Amana Colonies a couple years' ago. In excellent unused/unread condition.
Recipes include breads, stews, suppers, vegetables as well as desserts. Single recipes could be doubled and tripled for larger crowds such as potlucks, family gatherings, and special occasions such as weddings, etc.
