Size:  21.5 x 48 cm, 6 cm thickness

Condition:  Overall good condition, some minor wear to glaze on front.  Small area of professional restoration to edge above right hand tree.  Some light cracks to the glaze which do not appear to go all the way through and seem to be stable.

This very fine tile shows a relief picture of two huntsmen with their dogs, one of which has a hare, in a forest.  The tile is from a stove or the centrepiece of a fireplace, having a double hollow back and soot staining along one edge.

There are few markings. There is an impressed 46 in one corner of the edge, and also an L.   The scene and the markings point strongly to a German or Austrian manufacturer such as Wilhelm Schiller und Sohn or the Brüder Urbach.

The tile is heavy and stands nicely without frame.

A rare and unusual piece.
