Obverse

Running Antelope was the chief of the Hunkpapa, a group of American Plains Indians. His bust features on the obverse of 1 oz Copper $5 Banknote Bars. Running Antelope became head chief of his tribe in 1851 and was well-known for his bravery in war, his oratory skills, and his diplomatic abilities. His bust is depicted with inscriptions of United States of America and a Roman numeral V and 5 next to the portrait.

Reverse

A simple design element is featured on the reverse of the 1 oz Copper $5 Banknote Bar. The field has a solitary Roman numeral V in the center with the denomination marked in Arabic numerals in the upper corners and the word Five in the two lower corners.

History

Silver certificates were broadly issued by the United States as a representative paper money between 1878 and 1964, though the popularity of these certificates waned in the 20th century following the standardization of small size Federal Reserve Notes in 1914. The $5 denomination was introduced in 1886 and was one of three denominations regularly issued from 1928 to the end of the series in 1964.
