Yacht Varnish 

A tough, top quality varnish with a high gloss finish. Protects against cracking and flaking caused by UV light. Also provides complete and long-lasting protection under testing weather conditions. Suitable for exterior and interior applications. Ideal for use on boats, doors, window frames, garden furniture and many other items, especially in a marine or exposed environment. 

Preparation: Before use, test a small inconspicuous area with all products to be used, to ensure a satisfactory final finish & compatibility. Product has a light amber hue so is not recommended over painted surfaces. Not for use as a waterproof membrane. Ensure surfaces are clean, dry and free from dirt, oil and grease. Rub down thoroughly with fine glasspaper and dust off. Blemishes and cracks or nail holes should be filled with a suitable wood filler then sanded down. 

On previously painted timber, sand off previous paints or treatments and then proceed as with new timber.

New timber - thin 5-10% with White Spirit for the first coat. Allow 12 hours before applying the next coat. Further 2-3 coats improve protection and finish. Ensure all end grain or wood is thoroughly treated. Lightly sand between coats with a very fine glasspaper for an optimal finish. 

Application: By brush, roller or spray. Stir thoroughly. Ideal application temperature between 15-25o C. 

Drying Times: Touch Dry: 6 hours. Hard Dry: 24 hours. Low temperature/high humidity adversely affects drying time. 

Overcoat Time: 12 hours or overnight. Full hardness up to 7 days. 

Coverage Guide: 14 square metres per litre 

Brush washing/Thinners: White Spirit 

HIGH VOC content: 25-50% VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) contribute to atmospheric pollution. EU limit value for this product (cat: A/e) : 400g/l (2010). This product contains max 400g/l VOC. 

Remove as much of the product as possible from application equipment before washing. Do not empty product into drains or waterways. Some local authorities have special facilities for disposal of waste coatings. To avoid the risk of spillage, always store and transport in secure upright position. During surface preparation, avoid inhalation of dust. Wear a suitable face mask if sanding.

Yacht varnish is a traditional marine quality highly durable UV resistant varnish Available in gloss and satin finishes.

Ideal for use on yacht woodwork, doors, gates, facias, sheds, furniture etc. Can be used over existing paintwork to increase gloss finish. For interior or exterior use.

All surfaces should be clean, dry, sound and free from contaminants. New wood should be sanded prior to coating to ensure an adequate “key” is produced. Existing painted surfaces should be cleaned, degreased and sanded to ensure an adequate “key” is produced. Remove all loose, flaking material and treat bare areas as new substrate then prepare accordingly. Important on all products to ensure no sediment is left on the bottom of the can and product is thoroughly mixed. This is required to ensure a consistent sheen level throughout the application.

For interior or exterior use. As dictated by normal good painting practice. In confined spaces, provide adequate ventilation during application and drying. 

Method: Brush, Roller and Airless Spray. Nozzle pressure: 1800 to 2000 psi. 

Drying times: 

Touch dry: 6 hours @ 20 °C 

Hard dry: 24 hours @ 20 °C 

Full hardness: 5 to 7 days @ 20 °C 

Recoat interval: 12 hours or overnight. 

Low temperature and high humidity will adversely affect application, drying and performance of any coating.

Coverage: Approximate coverage 14 sq. m/ litre. The practical spreading rate may be lower as this depends on factors such as the porosity and roughness of the surface to be painted and material losses during application.
