HISTORY OF RAILWAYS

The station at Dundrum, County Dublin, opened on 10 July 1854, was to have been the terminus of the Dublin & Wicklow Railway and was constructed accordingly as an impressive single-storey mid-Victorian stucco block, with an open colonnade fronting onto the platform. Subsequent railway politics decreed that in fact Dundrum would be merely a passing, suburban station on the Harcourt Street-Bray line, though the station building, as originally conceived, was somewhat extravagant for this purpose.
