Scarce authentic antique medieval Islamic ceramic bowl, Syria or Egypt from the 14th-15th century (700 AH-906 AH), Mamluk period.

It rests on a disc-shaped short foot and is decorated with black and blue painted underglaze. The interior features a central medallion with a scrolling lotus flower, while the walls have a band of lotus petal lappets enclosing cloud-like rings. The exterior of the bowl is painted with interlaced scrolling vegetation motifs.

The Mamluk ceramic bowls, crafted during the Mamluk Sultanate era in Egypt and Syria, were influenced by Chinese ceramics from the Yuan and Ming dynasties. The particular design of these bowls features a combination of black and blue painted patterns that stand out as a characteristic feature of Mamluk ceramic. The Mamluk ceramic was highly regarded for its intricate designs and durability, and it has become a valuable and sought-after collector's item among art enthusiasts.

CONDITION: The object has been repaired and is in good condition considering its age. All of the original parts are intact and have been professionally glued together to a high standard. A small area has been filled with plaster, but no replacement parts exist. The surface has an appealing original patina and discoloration, with a darker brownish hue caused by the natural minerals in the earth.

The bowl's colors are duller. We had to use very strong light to show its actual condition and cracks.

It is worth noting that a significant proportion of the medieval Islamic ceramics on display in various renowned museums have undergone restoration due to damage and loss of parts over time. In fact, some of these ceramics have up to 60% of their original parts missing. However,

this particular artifact has all its original parts.
