Antique Hand Crafted Japanese KOKESHI DOLL– 9 1/2” Tall, Tokyo Antique Shop in 1980

This very charming hand-painted antique Japanese Kokeshi Doll stands 9 1/2” tall and is 3” wide at the base. She was purchased at small shop of antiquities in Tokyo in 1980. Uniquely painted, the doll’s head has a large white ribbon on the top of her head and two smaller bows that tie separate little ponytails on each side of the head. The center portion of the doll bears hand-painted Japanese script, and the bottom is painted with a scene of pine trees and a house in the background.

Kokeshi are simple wooden dolls with no arms or legs that have been crafted for more than 150 years as a toy for children. Kokeshi dolls have been used as an inspiration for the style of Nintendo's digital avatars, called "Miis", which are created and customized by players.

The doll is in very good pre-owned condition for its age. Please examine all the photos for a more complete description of the piece and its condition.
