This fantastic Limited-edition 50c Carded Coin recognises the efforts of Australia's Forces during the Vietnam War.
The 50c coin was issued by the Royal Australian Mint to commemorate '50 years since the Battle of Long Khanh' in the Vietnam War. It features a depiction of an ADF Australian Centurion Tank in the Jungles of Vietnam with an Iroquois Helicopter above and soldier holding rifle to the right.

BACKGROUND:

By June 1971 Australia had been involved in the Vietnam War for nine years. With no end in sight to an unpopular war, the Australians – like the Americans – were reducing their forces as they prepared to pull out of Vietnam.
In one of the most intense actions during this period, soldiers of the 3rd Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment, assaulted a concealed bunker complex in South Vietnam’s Long Khanh Province. Three soldiers died in combat, with five wounded.
The coin was issued by the Royal Australian Mint in two formats: 1) PNC / FDC and 2) Coincard (this item).
