Antique Scottish Rams Horn Snuff Box/Patch box/pill pot. The box being heart shaped was undoubtedly a love token but being so small, I can’t be sure of its original use. The rams horn has been polished to a high shine but close inspection does reveal the true nature of the material. I have included close-up pictures to illustrate. The lid fits very snugly and has a gold? hand engraved heart shaped plate attached. I cannot be sure if this is real gold, silver gilt or some other material but in the time I have had this piece, it has never tarnished and a low tech skin test makes me suspect that it is unmarked gold but please do not buy this item purely for its gold content in case I am proved wrong. The style of hand engraving also leads me to believe that the box is Georgian. I’m sure the experts amongst you will be able to “read” this piece better than I.
