Copper flame Art -Fleur De Lis on Copper. This is pure 16oz Copper panel with image created with fire and gold leaf! The copper is sanded and cleaned then fire is applied to create oxidation to varying degrees. High temperature and repetition cause the colors to form and lock into the surface layer. One of the coolest effects of color from this process is that different angles and different lighting- can dramatically change the visible color and reflectivity of the piece. It's almost like the art is alive! For this piece, I used 16oz copper sheet and a reclaimed frame. Once color gets just right- I clean it and seal it off with a coat of Glaze. The glaze cuts of air and seals the color in, and for the most part, stops the oxidation. Over a long period of time the colors can change, darken or lighten. This is a rather large piece -With frame, total size is 20" x 20". The copper sheet, if you wanted to reframe, is 16" x 16" by itself. It weighs several pounds, so care should be exercised with how you hang or display it. If you purchase- I hope it makes a great addition to your collection and generates great conversation!
