Tyre, in modern-day Lebanon, ancient Phoenicia, is one of the oldest inhabited cities in history. This coin was struck during the period immediately following Seleucid hegemony in the Levant. The ancient emblem of Tyre was the palm tree, which is found on much of its coinage throughout the centuries. Melqart was the tutelary god of the city.
