Offering for sale is a previously owned copy of "...Mitchell's United States..." also known as "AN ACCOMPANIMENT TO MITCHELL'S REFERENCE AND DISTANCE MAP OF THE UNITED STATES; CONTAINING AN INDEX OF ALL THE COUNTIES, DISTRICTS, TOWNSHIPS, TOWNS, & c., IN THE UNION:..." et al. The full title takes the entire page so I won't write it here, please look at the images provided for the full title if interested. The reference book is packed with detailed information of the United States in 1835. Descriptions of life and activities in many states is included but in many instances areas that were not states are not listed - such as California and Minnesota. Basically, states west of the Mississippi River are not listed - The Louisianna Purchase had not taken place. Book was printed in 1835 in Philadelphia, PA by Mitchel & Hinman, No. 6 North Fifth Street. As noted the basic book and its pages are in good condition for a book published in 1835 however, the front and back covers are very worn with portions of the finish cover missing and unglued. I am told the front and back covers are known as "Marbled boards". The edge binder is fair, showing very worn areas on all sides. It does contain the title, "MITCHELL'S UNITED STATES", in gold gilt letters and four horizontal lines. Edges of the combined pages have become brown. Some of the first few pages front and rear contain modest stains and foxing. Book size: 5 1/2" wide x 9" high x 1" thick
