France, original portrait, young girl, pastel (& possibly another medium), hand drawn & signed in about 1860 (photograph 1). The portrait is displayed behind glass, in an oval wooden frame (photographs 1 & 6).

Description: The girl has neat dark brown hair, which is probably in the 'braided bun' style, fair skin, & detailed facial features (photographs 2 & 3). She is wearing a multi-coloured dress, that is covered in several areas by a black square pattern. She has a white collar around her neck, & is wearing white under garments & stockings. Her stylish boots are a light brown colour, & she is probably wearing beaded bracelets on both wrists, & carrying two pink flowers in her right hand. The artist has signed the portrait near the girl's right leg (photographs 2 & 4). The girl is positioned in the centre of a light brown background, & displayed behind glass in an oval gold coloured decorative frame (photographs 1 & 2). The frame is made from wood, includes a metal picture hanging ring at the top, & has a material resembling cork fitted into the centre of its back surface (photographs 5 & 6).

Condition: There are two very small holes through the portrait's paper or thin card, located near the top (photograph 3). The gold colour covering the frame's front & side surfaces has worn in several places, & a red undercoat can be seen underneath (photograph 1). There is a thin crack in the frame, located near the bottom of the frame's front surface (photographs 1 & 7). The picture hanging ring at the top of the frame, has a deformed circular shape (photographs 5 & 6). However, the portrait & it's frame are in very good condition for their age (photographs 1 to 6).

Dimensions: The length of the frame is 56.6 cm (the length including the picture hanging ring is 58.9 cm), the width 42 cm, & the depth 3.5 cm (photographs 1 & 6). The total weight of the portrait & it's frame is 2.03 kg.
