RARE Walker's “Excelsior” 1V Electric Log - in original box . See Photos..


Collector's Take Notice - A rare item up for highest bid, Authentic Walker's "Excelsior" IV Electric Log - Made in England by Walker & Son Ltd. - Birmingham This naval log is how one measured rate of speed. Throw the rotator overboard attached to a line and read the “Log Register”. The log comes housed in the original box with instructions. Original paper label attached to the interior lid of the pine wood box presents company's origin - Thomas Walker & Son, Ltd., 58, Oxford Street, Birmingham, Eng. A wiring diagram is present along with meticulous instructions: Instructions for Wiring Log Current Instructions for Streaming the Log Hauling In Oiling Setting of Hands Testing Speed The "CONTENTS OF BOX" section has been revised on the label, from what would appear to be original hand notations. "Register (Sling Pattern); 2 Rotators; 2 Steel Hooks; 250 ft. Line and Sinker; 1/2 pint Tin of Oil; spare Glass." The "SUPPLIED SEPARATELY" section continues with notations; "Wheel House Repeater, with Resistance for 24 volts;" At the bottom of these two sections you see "CHECKED BY" with the name " Ron" handwritten. The original time and knot gauge is clearly a collector's piece all on it's own. With natural patina still intact it wears it's years of history in regal fashion. Under it's glass face, printed on white you find "NAUTICAL MILES", "Walker's "Excelsior"IV Electric Log", "Made in England by Thos. Walker's & Son Ltd., Birmingham".Two Rotators, sometimes referred to as "rockets" are present and intact. One displays it's genuine undersea patina while the other...if you can imagine...still wearing what appears to be it's original casaline. WHAT A RARE FIND! Hallmarked on both rockets, on all four blades is an anchor and initials T.W. Excelsior, Spare glass, still encased within it's original rapping, two sinkers and two hooks are present. The Walker's Ship Log Oil half pint tin is an incredible part of this case - with all fours sides displaying it's original label and information AND it's oil. Research finds THOS. WALKER & SON, LTD - were makers to the leading Navies and Shipping Companies in the world. Research further proclaims Walker's patent ship-logs were known throughout the world for their accuracy and durability. The only date we could locate was from The Fleet Annual and Naval Year Book - 1917 Walker's PatentThe pine wood case is completely intact but please note with noticeable wear - consistent with one's estimate of age. It closes by the use of two hinges and held closed by two brass hooks, both in workable order. Measurements: Rotators measure approximately 11" in length with blades diameter approx. 4". The case measures approximately 16.5" in length by 11" wide by 6" tall.This collector's item is offered in it's natural used condition. Don't let this one get by you. Thomas Walker & Son were inventors and makers of nautical instruments in the 19th and 20th centuries. The firm made one of the most commonly used navigation instruments, the ‘log’ which allowed sailors to measure distance at sea,one of the main measurements used in nautical navigation. The firm was founded by Thomas Walker in Birmingham in the 1830s.


THIS IS A VINTAGE PARTIALLY UNUSED ITEM BUT IT DOES HAVE SOME CORROSION, see photos,FROM STORAGE. THE BOX HAS HAD WOODWORM AND THIS HAS BEEN TREATED.
